Supporting the Language and Literacy Learning of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

The Neag School of Education’s Reading and Language Arts Center is hosting an afternoon with Dr. Susan Easterbooks, Co-PI Center for Literacy and Deafness. Dr. Easterbooks will provide an overview of research related to the following instructional approaches: foundations for literacy, vocabulary 4 success, and fingerspelling our way to literacy. The event being open to those interested in supporting the language and literacy development of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students using ASL and/or listening and spoken language. The event will also provide an opportunity for the teachers of the deaf to network and talk with each other.
The afternoon includes lunch, keynote, and discussion. The event is free for UConn faculty, staff, and students. Cost is $20 per person for community members. Deadline to register is Oct. 1. For information and to register, visit http://reading.education.uconn.edu.
